Onatalu: A Journey of Care, Community, and Clean Beauty
Every brand has a story, and ours begins in 2017 in Obigbo, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Back then, we were known as Afrotherapy, a small natural hair and skincare brand born out of necessity and love.
How It All Started
Our founder, Chisom, was a new mother searching for gentle, effective products for her 6-month-old baby with a full head of beautiful afro hair. After countless attempts with store-bought products that caused skin reactions and failed to soften her baby’s hair, she decided to take matters into her own hands.
With confidence in knowing what goes into every product and why, Chisom began crafting formulations from scratch. What started as a solution for her child soon became a passion project. She shared her creations with her late mother-in-law, who encouraged her to turn this craft into a business and promised full support. Sadly, she passed away before the dream could take flight.
Challenges and Resilience
Life brought its own challenges—limited entrepreneurship skills, financial constraints, relocation, and the pursuit of a Master’s degree in Public Health. Afrotherapy became dormant, but Chisom never stopped creating for her family and friends. Over the years, she gained nine years of experience in formulating hair and skincare products for personal use.
The Birth of Onatalu
Today, that passion has evolved into Onatalu, a brand with a bigger purpose:
- To provide luxury, affordable, and clean personal care products for marginalized communities in the UK.
- To create a platform that supports holistic health and wellbeing, especially for people of African descent.
Our mission is rooted in the spirit of Ubuntu—“I am because we are.” Onatalu is more than a brand; it’s a community-driven movement to promote care, connection, and empowerment.

We are still growing, learning, and listening to our community. Every step we take is guided by the needs of those we serve. Our promise is simple: to serve with integrity and to promote wellbeing through clean, effective products.
